YOUTH FOR EQUALITY

"I have referred to efficiency & our getting out of our traditional ruts........I dislike any kind of reservation, more particularly in services.I react strongly to anything which leads to second class standards........If we go in for reservations on communal & caste basis we swamp the bright & able people......I WANT MY COUNTRY TO BE FIRST-CLASS COUNTRY IN EVERYTHING.THE MOMENT WE ENCOURAGE SECOND CLASS, WE ARE LOST..............This way lies not only folly but disaster."
--Pt. Nehru

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHO ARE WE?
Youth for Equality
is an initiative by Medical students & professionals from
UCMS(UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES), AIIMS(ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES), LHMC(LADY HARDINGE MEDICAL COLLEGE), VMMC(VARDHMAN MAHAVIR MEDICAL COLLEGE), MAMC(MAULANA AZAD MEDICAL COLLEGE) .....who feel strongly against populist measures (reservations on basis of caste, religion) which are wrong, unjust and harmful for India's future.

WHAT DO WE WANT?
We want the government to immediately scrap reservations.

WHY?
1.Reservations compromise the quality of medical care as merit is ignored and those who might not be competent enough might get seat.
2.Reservations have been a colossal failure. If 60 years after initiating reservations the govt is feeling the need to extend them, it is but obvious that these measures have failed.Needed instead are newer & more innovative measures like better facilities.
3.Reservations are crutches which severely limit the ability of such backward communities to equal or even better others.
4.
Such measures do not benefit the really improverished and backward people, rather only end up dividing us.
5.Reservations add momentum to the already increasing trend of braindrain

We feel that NOW is the time to take matters in our hands as it is OUR future at stake.

For our voice to be heard, it is imperative to form a representative body of students from all across India. We shouldn't be divided into Eng, medical, law, arts, science, commerce, etc.

THIS ISN'T ABOUT YOU OR ME , THIS IS ABOUT US.

HOW TO GO ABOUT ACHIEVING THIS?
1) MOBILISING PUBLIC OPINION. Via media, demonstrations, signature campaigns.
2) LEGAL RECOURSE. Filing PIL (esp against reservation at postgraduate level)

Therefore we invite all Indians who feel stongly about this and wish to contribute in some way. We should be united, and make a powerful statement on this issue.

We realise that achieving this is an uphill task.... but we also believe ITS NOT IMPOSSIBLE.

We really would like your suggestions on how to effectively form such a body, and carry this forward.
Write to youth4equality@gmail.com

We are also on Orkut....see link on this page

We have received some comments and are thankful for same. However we request you to put your name, if not then atleast ur institution and batch.we also request u to kindly leave ur mail id's so that we can send u an invitation to join the group and support our common cause.

Divisive Reservations: Opportunity Denied is Dignity Denied

Friends as you are aware that the politicians of the day have yet again attempted to undermine the spirit of an equal society and divide the youth of India.

The attempt to create dissentions amongst us, and to deny the basic right to self respect to many of us by offering ill meaning reservationist policies should be opposed tooth and nail.

The recent recommendation of the Government of India seeking to offer 27% reservation in all educational institution to OBC`s (thus making it a total of 49.5 % reservations) under the garb of upliftment of “backward communities” may be better read as “vote bank politics”.

Are we going to accept this unjust policy, which stifles merit, and jeopardize the chances of the best talent to blossom in the nation?

Are we going to take this injustice hands down?

Are we going to accept the crap that our greedy politicians have put forth in the form of unjust and irrational policy decisions?

This fight is not against individuals or communities but to prevent further divisions in already divided society of ours. Not just this, the fight is to prevent the denial of dignity to the communities who are being offered crutches when they don’t seek them and crippling of many more meritorious students.

The time for complacency is gone….
The fight is now or never! So lets join hands and nip this misadventure in the bud.

Beware greedy politicians! The youth of India is now awake and refuses to be divided by your populist measures.

Views from all sections are welcome. Tell us how you can help us to make a difference.

HISTORY OF RESERVATIONS IN INDIA: KNOW THE FACTS!

1951: Amendment to constitution says that states can make special provisions for advancement of any backward caste.
1953: Govt. sets up 1st backward castes commission, under Kalelkar which submits report in 1955.
1963: Supreme court ruling limiting max. possible reservation to 50% in any institution.
1977: Mandal commission set up... Recommends OBC quota in "JOBS" in 1980.
1990: VP Singh proposes implementation of Mandal's reccomendations.
1992: SC upholds 27% quota for OBCs in govt. "JOBS" subject to exclusion of the 'creamy layer'.
1993: Govt. defines "creamy layer". Mandal implemented.
2006: Arjun 'Mandal' Singh proposes resevations in all centrally managed institutions/ universities (both funded and non-funded). AND we can already see him drooling for petty votebanks... SHAME ON SUCH REGRESSIONIST 'LEADERS'!!
They are no more than a bunch of crooks who can see no further than their own vested interests...

i totally support you guys and it's endorse your view regarding reservations. I think right now the efforts are fragmented. On orkut only quite a few groups have been created. I think the youth should move together to make the voice audible.
One such group is "Rennaisance Men". I think we can tag other realated groups on respective community & then we can have teh respective moderators sharing a single platforms where a mass movement can be decided upon.
kudos to you guys.

Why does my education seem to be my biggest burden?
Why does my conscience seem to be a cross I’ll have to bear all my life?
Why do I feel unwanted in my own country?
Why is the India of my dreams sinking & I can only sit and watch…

Well, yes what the hell am I doing, sitting here and contemplating , what its all about….

Well, it’s the MURDER of society and civilization .its almost genocidal in proportion. Its akin to the murderous holocaust wiping out a whole generation of Indians
Are we blind & deaf , can’t we hear the guns and ammunition
Or wait..
Are we pathetic cowards, who wouldn’t nudge even if our parents were murdered. True ,we are the pop generation. Hail instant gratification!

Oh ya ! you will forward this thru e-mail & sms to all your pals

Well , it’s the RAPE of our pride and our self respect .That’s because they are using us for their own pleasure. We are victims of a perverted twisted political ideology.
And we just watch!
Oh yes ! we are pathetic cowards , who will do the same when our sisters are raped. Perhaps the smoke from our cigarettes & the high from spirits will help us forget the unpleasant reality.

Oh , forward that too ! will ya !

Well , its also EXPLOITATION of our abilities because we are lugging forward the aspirations of a whole nation & are severly reprimanded if we do not provide for the comforts of people who refuse to take control of their lives and take India two steps back for every one step taken forward.
Well what do we do, just watch , while we are still forwarding e-mail’s & sms’s .
Yes ! we definitely are pathetic cowards coz we watch them throw us out and take over our homes and lives.

Well dude ! I know u forwarded that 2 thnx man! Ur gr8!

Oh yes ! if it seems terrible it is !
Welcome to reality !
Welcome to the jungle. where every body is just looking for his next prey to pounce upon, albeit under cloak of a civilized society

What has India come to?
What has happened to the youth of the country , the fuel and power of the nation , for whom the MURDER , RAPE & EXPLOITATION of their own country is lost in a maze of sms’es , e-mails & inaction ?

Will I chose to escape from it all?

Will I resign to to a life of ignorance and go from cowardice to regret & remorse & finally to fade in frustration.

Or will I chose to come together and fight and build a future & an India that we all are proud of………

Where do I go
I am a medical student of general category unfortunately I had to take a drop during my pre medical tests where I wasted one whole year of my life time doing absolutely nothing. Today after a long wait of 4 years I am in the last and final year of the course and awaiting what becomes of me in the post graduate entrance test . I have not one but many things to think about my offers are already limited by the fact that the number of doctors passing out with me during the year far out numbers the number of seats available for PG courses. The number of people who sit for the exam again outnumber the number of people passing this year by a great margin which narrows down my chances of getting a PG to the bare minimum. United Kingdom has already figuratively stopped accepting non European doctors. United states puts a big hurdle at the visa office. The last and the final blow comes form nowhere but my own land by giving reservations o as high as 27% to the backward classes of India in a professional post graduate course. It does not matter how competent one is but it does matter how backward one is. Don't take my comment as a mockery to the underprivileged but what I want to put forward is ; is it right to let a mentally or skillfully less competent doctor take a course of a specialty just because he/she belongs to a backward class? Is it right let a person play with the life of a patient when we know he or she is not competent enough? This is the question I want to ask the government today: where do I go?
Let there be a fair competition. Let there be help to them by providing them opportunities to study and not back door entries to courses. Let the competition be equal for all. Let them prove their competence for doctors' job I something that requires skill and knowledge irrespective of what caste or creed one belongs too. How would Mr Arjun Singh like to be treated by a doctor whom he knows is there not because of his capabilities but his previleges

The new reservation policy by HRD minister Arjun Singh is unfortunate. At a time when everything was booming and nation was making steady progress he has brought in this vote bank gimmick.
How long shall we carry on with these reservations and how many more reservations are going to come up? First reservations in the jobs. And now New reservation and that too 27 % .

Enough is Enough.
Dont bend a stick so much that it breaks.

Another disappointing aspect to it is that it will apply to private unaided educational institutes as well. Government should stop interfering with the private sector for all the wrong reasons. Give freedom to the private sector to grow. Individual talent and the capabilities have to be recognized and suitably rewarded.
Why is the government passing on its social responsibility to the private sector. Government is already collecting taxes and i am sure a major chunk of it is contributed by the "general category" and in the process fulfilling its social responsibility. What more do you want? Aren't we working and earning honestly?

Let hard working and meritorious students not suffer and suffocate. The time had come that the government should have actually started reducing the reservations in stead of throwing up this new one. The needy should actually be given the facilities for learning and not the seat itself. If candiadates are made to suffer this way their faith in the system and the government will melt away soon.

I urge all of the people affected and sympathising with those affected to come forward and oppose this move at all possible steps. Let our voices and dissent be heard and communicated.

It is crystal clear that this proposal of extention of reservation is based only on caste-based vote-bank politics. It is reverse discriminatory, will introduce mediocrity in this country as opposed to excellence, and definitely has the potential to cauase a wide spread exodus of meritorious students belonging to the G-cat.
We would wholeheartedly support any action taken by the govt for the upliftment of the backward classes; reservation, DOES NOT, however, lead to the upliftment of the backward classes for the simple reason that it does not target the people who actually need upliftment. Those who can take advantage of this are actually the small creamy layer, who are already well educated and socially and economically well off. If the people, for whose upliftment this policy is being introduced, can't even get primary education or even holesome dal and roti for meals, how can they ever benefit from reservation in some premier institute cxalled IIM or IIT or AIIMS?
If in a nation the merit seats in institutions of excellence are given to non-meritorious students at the cost of meritorious ones just because of ther "caste", then the only direction in which the nation can go is downwards.
With reservations in private schools and private jobs also in the pipeline, the people belonging to the G-cat have no other option but to either truggle against all odds or to flee from this country for good.
If the govt actually wants to do something for the upliftment of the backward people, it should provide them with adequate facilities for primary and seondary education, free food, free books, extra coaching and adequate employment opportunities for those below the poverty line. They can be uplifted only by providing them with a path to success and helping them in their journey, not by reserving seats at the destination which not only harms the lives of the general people, but is also useless for the actual backward people who do not even have adequate access to the 'path'. In this respect, the govt has failed in its duties.

Hi,
I wanna say that the time has come that we do something radical. Following this Gandhian Philosophy of petitioning and begging for our rights has to go. We have to snatch them away from these deaf and blind politicos who dont give a shit for principles. Lets not forget, this is the same congress which Gandhi set up. And this is the same congress which split up India. Jawahar to Indira to Rajiv, The Nehru Parivar has always been empathic to India. These politicos have always played in the hand of their subsideries like this old man Arjun Singh. We the general category, have always suffered because of two reasons.
1.Our sympathy to all. These shaddus have nothing to lose. They have always been one and get ready to fight for their rights at once. We have to understand that we have to fight. Fight with guns if possible. Marx said "Revolution demands blood". Bose said "Tum mujhe khoon do, mai tumhe azadi duga". Agar jitna hai to bahar aao apne is dar se aur chauda seena leke khade ho jao. Tabhi hamari awaz koi sunega.
2. And stop being sweet to these shaddus. Comments like they are fighting with us, and standing by our side. BULLCRAP. Hamari ladai inse hai. Tell them to fill general category form in PG exams. Fight along with us. Not one will come forward. BOYCOTT them. They will not stand by our side.
Till we dont spill out o the streets, till we dont reach decibels of a launching spaceship, till we dont draw blood, we will not be heard. and only the youth are not involved. Involve the elders also. This movoment is just not for the rights of the student community. It has to be a war of the masses, war for the masses.

Jai Hind.
Long Live The Revolution.

Truly saying this new step of the govt. 4 vote politics will harm the harmony among the various sections of the society and it will GREATLY affect the educational growth of a developing country like India. The cut throat competition takes a hell out of children n with the seats for reserved category declining it will eventually lead 2 brain drain to other countries WHICH HAVE NO RESERVATIONS.
Its the time 4 us to join our hands and fight against those polititians who are neglecting thye future of INDIA 4 their own vested interests.

i strongly support the ongoing campaign against these regressionist measures tried out by arjun singh, who seems to have no better way of avoiding alzheimer`s at his age than put all of us in delirium!what he`s trying is absolutely to be condemned.no less.our families have a middle class mentality of buckling ourselves for the fight ahead, and study harder, but i believe we always do that, and do the biggest crime of all--take injustice lying down.gandhi condemned such insane behaviour.it is as good as whipping ourselves and deriving vicarious masochistic pleasure from the act.delivering crutches to a man who can walk is not a done thing,as our friends on the other side realise.merit must win,at all costs,if we want our country to progress the way it is.wish youth for equality all the best!

We shudder to think what is going to happen to al our institutes once the reservation comes into play... take AIIMS, as an example of a central govt institute. We have 50 seats per batch in MBBS...49.5% gives 24 seats to the quota (Cunning government bast*rds know that 50% cant be imposed so they put 49 point goddamned 5 %...Fu**ers)...

we are left with 26 seats...and there is a mandatory 10% reservation for foreigners...so tke away another 5 seats...Remaining is 21.

One seat is reserved for Physically handicapped persons...giving a GRAND TOTAL OF 20 seats or less to compete for...from 33 to 20.

This fight is not really for us...majority of us were planing to move out after MBBS anyway (and dont call me anti national please...its just that i dont consider myself good enough to get a good seat in AIIMS PG)...

This is for the POOR G CAT KID
who is giving his ass in Aakash Institute and Brilliant Tutorials and Narayana and Sri Chaitanya and OES...For the kid who stays up all nights even though his mom tells him to go to bed...preparing with honesty for PMTs or JEE or CAT...they have no damn voice...should we go into these coaching institutes and ask them to join the movement? these are our future fachchas and fachchis after all...

Whats next, arjun bhai? anoter such reservation if imposed in CBSE PMT would literally kill any ambitions of a school kid to become an MBBS doctor...

ANd reg that post abt Reserved Cat guys being against us...im not sure thats always true...some of them just feel they are morally not justified to oppose an OBCs entry hrough reservation, since they themselves havecome through the same route...they are not bad people. We have a problem with increase in reservation, NOT with PEOPLE WHO ENTER THROUGH IT.

Whats wrong with a person trying for a reseved seat when there is a reservation? its not their fault, its the governments fault for trying to increase it. why, had there been a quoata for indian students in US colleges, i dont believe many of would have had any problems tAking advantage of it!

The irony is that the underprvileged have always recieved more than the previleged ones in this country.
This government with its myopic vision of gaining a few seats in pols has forgotten the bigger picture of depreciation in quality and standard once these undeserving people get into the highest ranks.
I wish Arjun Singh has an MI one of these days and is treated in the emergency by one of these undeserving student treats him!

I am not against reservation but reservation at PG level means some people who are qualified doctors, getting benefit of being SC/ST. This is injustice, reservation should done at primary level. Politicians are not at all concerned with the future of these people, they are only conerned with their votebanks.

This reservation does not help those people who are really suffered from the backwardness, in most of the cases only those people are benefited whose families are already in strong position, or their parents have already got good job because of this status.
There should be some mechanism that one people will get this benefit only once in his lifetime and his descendent won't be allowed to take the benefit of this reservation. Otherwise even 50% reservation won't help them much.

Hi, why only Doctors, in this fight against injustice i suggest that you contact engineering graduates as well.
2. secondly why only students, why not professionals. Request your senoirs, peers & all, to launch a non cooperation movement against government. Its high time. We now need to fight for equality. If SC/St's & OBC's have to come into mainstream, they have to pass the same tests as we do.... A more definite solution is need of the hour.
3. I suggest we draft a policy / proposal. A solution which will actually help the downtrodden & suggest the same.... i.e. lets take proactive approach.

Thats a great effort you guys have started. Its about time that somethings are put in perspective and one of them is that we belong to a generation which wants to be globally competetive. We don't need any help from our politicians coz by now we have realised we can do without them but its high time they stop messing with our progress and potential. Can't imagine any other country which sacrifices its brightest brains in the name of equality and progress.

I know many who are not students but who want to do something. Its important to find a way for others to be brought in otherwise this would die as a student movement and nothing else (and believe me i have been a part of three such failed movements in my 5.5 years of college). I can't imagine a way though I fancy a few heads put together might. I don't think a lot of them are powerful but at least they may be willing to do something.

There are a few of us who are sitting abroad and though I can't say that for everybody but I think at least some would defintely be willing to come forward and help you guys. Do you think some of you can organize yourself and think about a role for me and others like me. Also do you think a PIL could be filed for exploitation on this ground. There might be some law students who could be put to work for this.

We really need a globalized campaign against such measures otherwise there would be others like me who won't have a choice but to move out.

Lets not just sit back and do nothing about this.

I support your initiative. At the same time i would like people to realise that such policies are based on vote bank.
Currently we the professional are not considered as a mojor vote bank.If we oraganise ourselves as a Vote Bank then definetly we can change the Direction of Politics and take country to greater hieghts. We need to be United and make this agitation a Nationwide phenomenon

At 10:06 pm, Anonymous Anonymous said...

We need make a stand here and not stop until the whole reservation policy is rolled back. All the political parties have made a fool of us and none have come out in our support ... all eyeing the huge obc vote bank.
The whole senario is so disgusting ....If there was another country I would have migrated..leaving this one to its own fate.....Run down by incompetence and mediocricity...Lets face it we are orphans in our own country....

At 10:07 pm, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Let me make a few suggestions :
1.If our political leaders(?) are so emotional about reservations, let them visit physicians from reserved category only; whenever they are admitted to any hospital, the team of doctors treating them should comprise of physicians only from reserved category.
2.Siblings of MPs/MLAs have to study in our country in goverment colleges, at least upto graduation, and without going through the ministerial quotas. They cannot run the rot here and let their children study in world class universities abroad.
3.Let us form a group, try to build a consencous and support a political party that opposes reservation.

Bramhins are selling coffee in road side sheds.....Sc/St's run their own Medical colleges... 2nd generation SC/STs..missuse..reservations while the true needy lot are being shot at , labelled as naxals. What can we do?...
1.litigate
sue OBC doctors asking for reservation under caste/income categoty for post graduate seats..as they already have a huge ..and hence come under creme layer of obc..but anyway take reservation...
sue the government of india for subverting the fundamental rights of equality and social justice with later ammendments.the issue being whether a future law and subvert fundamental moral principles?....
2.confront...may not work... as we have seen the high handedness of the delhi..police beating women doctors
self immolation...not ok.. its against the law... and we all have parents to think about.. fast...no body care. i.e. medha patak and modi.. mail the president... he keeps strange silence... is he still there?
3. exodus... imgs are returning fromuk.. us too saturated... we dnt have another country to move to....
4. unite and segregate... this is the best option.... discriminate against those who discriminate against us...... bar all non meritstudents from fraternities etc... cause a social turmoil ... if it is the only way..

At 10:23 pm, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah..... let us start a nation wide campaign of discrimination against non merit... exclude and do not mingle with qouta people... if they treat merit like untouchables ... we can do the same... no sharing buses, utensils...etc....back to the pre independence era....AND THIS TIME WE ARE THE NEW UNTOUCHABLES.

Dear all,

We need to spread it in a consolidated manner. We shouldnt limit it to only to the medical students. As i m in jaipur right now a working professional in IT. How we can Join your movement? i urge you to make a plan. As u all know, in democracy always number game is there.

But u know what? Isolated protests by 5 medical colleges in Delhi will never be enough.
U really need to rope in students from other cities, other streams, in one united movement against this rotten idea of quotas to have any real impact on those thick-skinned & fat-brained politicians running our country.

I wish that now we don't have to loose the oppertunity to get this shitty reservation right from the grass root. This is not the fight of only Govt funded higher educational institutes but its a fight of every one in the country who is paying TAX for the betterment of the society and the NATION. Its a fight of everyone who born in this country for the better future on the basis of MERIT. I never say that there is no reservation, but it should be really on the level of Economic level. This researvation anyways not on the "SEAT" level but on the getting basic education so that he or she can be equally compititive enough to take part on higher compitition which other candidates are facing.

WE , STUDENTS OF DELHI UNIVERSITY
SUPPORT INITIATIVE BY MEDICAL STUDENTS AGAINST DIVISIVE RESERVATION POLICY OF GOVT. AND WE APPEAL ALL STUDENTS, THEIR PARENTS, ALL STAKEHOLDERS AND ALSO ALL THOSE WHO FEEL FOR THE NATION, TO JOIN US IN THE PROTEST.

lets remember one thing that great student protest at time of mandal commission was failed because we were not together and efforts were not coordinated.
LETS DONT REPEAT THAT MISTAKE.

ITS NOW OR NEVER.
ITS DO OR DIE.
COME JOIN THE STRUGGLE.
WE APPEAL ALL STUDENTS OF DELHI UNIVERSITY TO JOIN THE STRUGGLE, ALL STUDENTS WHO ARE WAITING FOR THEIR RESULTS AND ASPIRING TO LIVE AND WORK IN THIS COUNTRY WITH DIGNITY.
INFORMATION FROM YOUTH FOR EQUALITY BLOD BY MEDIAVL STUDENTS-
WHAT DO WE WANT?
We want the government to immediately scrap reservations.
WHY?
1.Reservations compromise the quality of medical care as merit is ignored and those who might not be competent enough might get seat.
2.Reservations have been a colossal failure. If 60 years after initiating reservations the govt is feeling the need to extend them, it is but obvious that these measures have failed.Needed instead are newer & more innovative measures like better facilities.
3.Reservations are crutches which severely limit the ability of such backward communities to equal or even better others.
4.Such measures do not benefit the really improverished and backward people, rather only end up dividing us.
5.Reservations add momentum to the already increasing trend of braindrainWe feel that NOW is the time to take matters in our hands as it is OUR future at stake. For our voice to be heard, it is imperative to form a representative body of students from all across India.

We shouldn't be divided into Eng, medical, law, arts, science, commerce, etc.
THIS ISN'T ABOUT YOU OR ME ,
THIS IS ABOUT US.
HOW TO GO ABOUT ACHIEVING THIS?
1) MOBILISING PUBLIC OPINION. Via media, demonstrations, signature campaigns.
2) LEGAL RECOURSE. Filing PIL (esp against reservation at postgraduate level)Therefore we invite all Indians who feel stongly about this and wish to contribute in some way.
It is not necessary for others to join us.
If somebody out there (like in DU, IITs, IIMs) has already formed such a body, then we can join you .The important thing is that we should be united, and make a powerful statement on this issue.
We realise that achieving this is an uphill task.... but we also believe ITS NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
We really would like your suggestions on how to effectively form such a body, and carry this forward.
Write to youth4equality@gmail.comWe are also on Orkut....see link on this pageWe have received some comments and are thankful for same. However we request you to put your name, if not then atleast ur institution and batch.we also request u to kindly leave ur mail id's so that we can send u an invitation to join the group and support our common cause.

i just want to say that every so called 'category' person like myself who supports these reservations needs to do some introspection, for if u are competent, as we all claim to be, then we dont need any reservations... i have seen the state of my village, n having reservations for higher educations makes no sense... vot v need is better primary and secondary education facilities... there are no teachers in government schools in the villages,no furniture... nothing..... these are just namesake schools... we are indians first... i want to shun this label of 'category' that has come upon us... we are equal... we are as good as everyone else... we dont need any bloody reservations... we cant let this bloodthirsty bloody government divide india for votes!!!!! please here me out, my brothers!!! Any of us who have any self-respect, any pride in themselves, should oppose these reservations and join the movements against them!! i know i will!

Reservation ? Ok lets start reserving seats in Cricket too. A "reserved" class batsman if he hits a four he shall be granted 8 runs. If he is bowled, he still gets a second life. Mr Arjun Singh doesn't it sound gr8 ? Half of the country is already crazy for cricket and majority of them would be under our so called "Quota". A gr8 opportunity to gather votes I guess ? What do ya say ? Let's try and pass this bill too !!
I came to know about the present situation from a very close friend of mine in Lady Harding Medical college. It was shocking yet expected from a government like ours. Reservations were made in post Independence era to let the underprivileged and backward ppl have an opportunity to study,to work to live a life of dignity. Right now it's being misused by our politicians to satiate their own whims and fancies. It's thru these demonstrations only that we can open their eyes and tell them that India isn't sleeping.

its a pity that you so called doctors ( open category )are so ignorant about history. Ur Bas@#$ fore fathers had for since civilisation created untouchables for ur own benefit. treated them like dogs. deprived them educationally. made them live outside villages. made them eat dead meat.the list of atrocities is countless. U people talk of equality. aare f@#$ers go to any village in this bastard country and see what the situation is. the caste system still exists . if u are talking of equality go and get some justice to those shunned people who are still forced to stay outside villages. U bas!@# who have never visited ur villages what do u people know of equality. U people can protest only when ur vested interests are hampered. And what quality health care are u talking about. Every doctor who has a degree has passed the minimum criteria to save peoples life.just because u are backward caste makes u professionally incompetent is a joke.and i pity those bast$%rd colleages. And iF a civil war happens mind u that 75% of ur population (made up of BC s) will not rest till we finish u 25% bunch.

resoect for merit is what this government has failed to achieve.and what is more disturbing is that it is trying to get away by an extension of reservations.
this is nothing but a means of DIVIDE AND RULE.the youth are being divided on the basis of flimsy grounds.
the government's argument that it is a measure to bring about equality is but a lame excuse.it is a way of securing vote banks.

it is indeed saddening that the government is introducing resevation at tertiary level where pure talent must be trained for the profession.

BY EXTENDING RESERVATION BIRTH AND NOT WORTH IS BEING GIVEN IMPORTANCE WHICH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Their ideas are all wrong. I would rather not use unparliamentary language but I pledge to offer all the support that i can... don\'t give up. carry on and make sure the the voices grow so loud that even the materialistic masters of the media organisations are forced to play only what u all are saying on national channels through the day, national papers make you front page news... compell people to join... ask your parents to wear black badges. tell you dhobi, nai, mali, paan wala, anyone who supports this movement should wear a balck band. let people with black badges become a common sight... make families march.. young and old. dig out records of those who were injured and killed in the mandal commission protests. All govt hospitals would have them... contact their families and friends. get them to join you. make this mandal two minus the blood and gore. get smart and get even. this is the time to take the flame further... more to follow

our so-called elected reps hv learnt just one thing from the british, how to divide and rule. they only go in for populist measures and forget about development.
if reservations for the past 50 yrs have'nt benefitted the country, how making more of them will?
the debate is on in campuses across the nation and needs to be taken to the masses. Even with such vote-hungry and irresponsible mps as arjun singh and his govt i still have some faith in our democracy. i believe if we make this movement big enough the govt will have to rollback this proposal.

i always used 2 think that politics is dirty n politicians are bad(barring a couple of them)
but hey, this viewpoint needs a lill change. politics is the dirtiest game n politicians are the worst ppl around. and sitting at pinnacle of dirt is mr.arjun singh or whatever his name is.

he is nobody to decide the future of so many students pursuing a helluva several courses at this pt. of time.this man functions at SPINAL LEVEL n needs to be told this vote bank politics is not gonna work anymore

v r smart enough 2 understand that the proposed reservations will cater 2 only those obcs which statistically speaking comprise 0.1% of their population.
aint all this stupid? whom r u bluffing mr. singh everybody knows your game.

i think there is already an online signature campaign with more than a lakh signatures..but i think we somehow need to forward it to the conecrned authorities..im not sure how this could be done though

http://www.petitiononline.com/No_Quota/petition.html..is the link

i think we can inform the media about this signature campaign..that would serve a purpose..because 1 lakh is a significant number indeed

I extend my full support for this cause. The fire must not die out.

The media is already calling it "MANDAL - II"...but it should not really go MANDAL - I way...for then...we all are certainly doomed.

Mr Arjun Singh has already maintained that the quota law has already been passes...it is only to be enforced now.

Making him stop this..is therefore a mighty task.

It needs everybody to be united and stand firm.

In an effort to bring every concerned youth of this country..on the same page..so better action can be taken..i ve made this FORUM and am forwarding it to Youth For Equality convenors to Moderate.

the no. of "educated voter" in india is miniscule.so if you and i and many others who understand the vices of resevations don't vote you cannot bring down a government.because the crowd which brings (or doesnot bring) them to power is the illiterate crowd who would vote any dumbass as long as they are given a bottle of liquor.
is self immolation of any individual an answer to our problems ?how many remembers rajiv goswami?did that change anything??
what can be done to stop this injustice.?

arjun singh ..you idiot!.see what this has done already ..divided us!we will not let this happen..

you ppl carry on the movement.we are with you..your efforts will bear fruit.we all are with you...we will make the govt. and that idiot arjun singh take back their stupid and rediculous quota bill....

Regarding 'Give deprived section better facilities so that their competitiveness increases' : Practically we cannot give the education facilities a person in city enjoys, we can not have kind of schools at village level that city/towns have, not even to the level of Central School/DAV school/Navodaya Vidyalaya/GIC etc, leave alone the ones like public schools. Then comes Coaching part which is quite costly and now a days a very important thing required to clear entrance exams.

Except for the genius and strong willed ones its not easy for such people to compete with the resourceful ones.

UC vs Dalit : Skilled Vs Semi/Unskilled jobs :

For semi skilled/unskilled jobs : Pls tell how will upper caste person fare better that his/her Dalit counterpart

For Skilled Jobs : Pls note high end companies like Microsoft, Oracle, TCS, WIPRO, INFY etc hire several average scorers as well to do routine jobs let Dalits at least come in here. TCS/WIPRO chief should well know that computer engineers from good institutes (IIT's, Pilani, IT BHU, good NITs), do not attend their campus session.

The upper caste Hindus are very good at identifying their upper caste counterparts and reject rest on basis on communication/presentation skills, religion (Muslims) at resume shortlisting/interview level.

UC poor child VS Dalit poor child: UC wins :

Regarding Reservation only on basis of economic criteria : Well according to me poor upper caste will always fare better than poor Dalit child not because of genes but because of history, role models (including someone in close relation), parental emphasis on education and dalit child will miss all these. Thus except for genius and strong willed, its not easy for dalit child to compete successfully.

How long does it take for parity to be established? Okay, the Govt. brought a disadvantaged candidate till graduation... isn't that enough? Everyone reads the same books, sees the same patients, writes the same exams, and has the same environment. So then beyond graduation why reservations?
Professional courses deal with communities of people where each one has to be equally competent. Essentially, that would mean there's no need for reservations.

At 11:58 am, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Its not that we the student community is only bothered about their seats,if extended reservations are introduced in2 proffessional courses the quality of proffessionals produced as a result would not be up to the mark.AND I SAY THIS NOT BECAUSE I THINK THAT STUDENTS BELONGING TO SC/ST/OBC ARE IN ANY WAY INFERIOR TO THOSE BELONGING TO THE G.CAT BUT because if reservation is introduced evn if someone belonging to the G.CAT has more marks,he will not get a seat while on the other hand someone with lesser marks would get it just because of his belonging to a particular caste...
And since the proffessionals produced would not be the best, the quality of services would suffer, affecting the common man adversely!!!

I feel dat the reservation on the basis of caste is wrong and wasteful bcoz if the govt is genuinely interested in helping those who hav lack of educational oppurtunities,it should impove the infrastructure at the school level and provide economic aid to those who cant afford education ...Keeping in mind the amount of competetion in our country for quality higher education.there is NO SPACE OR NEED FOR RESERVATION OF ANY KIND!!!

I firmly believe in the values of merit inplace of reservations. there are meritorious persons amongst reserved clases also. Shri APJ Abdul Kalam is one amongst them.

Reservatons are made only for votes.

I fimly believe that Govs will implement it at any cost. No agitations can stop them because we elect incompetent people for different elected posts.

I propose the following in this case. Propgate it if u like it and make it an issue:-

Let them taste the Reservations for themselves.

In this case I propose the following reservation for Prime Minister CMs MLAs MPs and all other elected posts.

In post independence history, the Union Government has been in seat from 13 days to five years. PM, Ministers,Members of Parliament & Assemblies all are public servants. There should be reservation for them also on weekly basis because no body knows how long the Govt, Parliament or Assembly would last. Every assembly or parliament seat should be declared to be won by at least four candidates on the basis of reservation i.e. from SCs STs , OBCs General and others and it should rotate amongst them on weekly or monthly basis. Even the PM, CM and Ministers posts should rotate amongst persons from general and reserved categories on weekly basis. Let the country, where the ability is always sacrificed for politics, go to dogs. Let the country go to dogs and let the politicians prosper at the cost of people and country.

Our constitution can be amended to this effect, as has been done earlie, to suit political ends, because it is the empire of politicians. But the so-called rulers don’t know that it is the people and INDIA who are supreme not the constitution, Parliament, or Court. When there will be no INDIA there will be no Constitution, Parliament or Govt.

Arjun Siingh is just an incompetent sycopahnt of the Govt. Whole Govt, rather all parties are responsible for this.

No political party or its office- bearers have spoken against RESERVATION. They all are hand-in-glove to ruin the country for their selfish ends and for benefitting their PROFESSION OF POLITICS, which is highly lucrative profession.

Let their be reservation for them also.

Yes I strongly agree and support this issue which is a critical part in every student's life. Reservations kill the talent and the talented and deserving people will not get a chance to get started with a proper platform and the one who is untalented, not having the required knowledge will be on the high posts which will lead to misuse of this power. This will in turn harm our nation.

gain frm reservations is to only 2 politicians.it is 4 getting votes only, they want 2 simply hide their failures by making such provision.why can't they strenthen our primary and seconday schools so that people frm backward classes become capable enough.if this is done than they wont need any reservation, they ll be able 2 compete with anyone.

Merit and caste have got nothing to do with each other...these two completely different subjects have been very conviniently clubbed together by our leaders for their own benefits. Unfortunately for them....we are not ignorant fools!!
Castism would have long taken a backseat had it not been for our politicians. They are fueling a fire on which they can warm their hands later on....this very fire is now going to burn their ambitions of dividing us!!! COME WHAT MAY....WE STAND UNITED!!
India is the largest democracy in the world...and in our country, our leaders have taken a decision which is going to affect my life, your lives and the lives of lakhs of students across the nation, without even bothering to take into account our opinion on this issue. What kind of a democracy is it anyways????????????? Resevations go against the basic principal of equality. it is a mockery of our democracy, our Preamble, our Constitution!!!! AND WE, AS THE YOUTH OF INDIA....REFUSE TO ACCEPT IT!

does this mean that reserved category bastards fathers have loads of money that the dont care about education

when reserved category population comprises 75% of indian population why are there only 10 students in top 100. there should be 75 students of reserved category.

but no , this is not the case honey.

this issue is not about the number of students getting through in any particular category......this is about dividing us on the basis of something which is going to take us nowhere. This is going to create nothing but more discrimination. My merit is enough for me to compete with anyone and everyone...i am no less than anyone else in the " so called general category " . I DO NOT NEED THE CRUTCHES OF RESERVATION TO WALK THROUGH MY LIFE!!!!!

Reservation in higher education is violation of Article 26, Para 1 of Universal Declaration of human rights. Same rights which you learnt well when you were a kid. Remember? As per what you learnt, higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit. Here it is...

http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html

Article 26.

(1) Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.

I am with you Youth for equality.
Feel ashamed of our politicians. Instead of omiting castelism from the society, they incourage.Divide and rule policy. There should be no reservation at any cost of any kind, even not 27.5 %. They just want to do politics. Increasing seats are not solution becasue it is not just about the education, It has the larger implications.

1. Society will be divided, we will always hate each other. The biggest problem. There will always issues in the mind while talking to some other caste.

2. Quality will suffer. Becasue the caste which are going to get reservation, they will always target the % which just require to compete the exams and they will put the effort less than required by the general category people.
3. We will loose international business due to poor quality of man power, International business does not care about the our reservations, they just want the quality to be delivered.

Please do the following
1. omit any kind of reservation in education and jobs. No institutions shd be biased for muslims, hindu, sikh, christan. No quota system.
2. Make education as fundamenta right.
3. Provide Free education till 12th.
4. These kind of divide and rule midset people shd be booked under criminal law for metally harresment, as there deeds leads to new problems for next generation.

Shame - shame very much shame
Arjun you planned very bad game
We curse you from our heart
We will make your body apart
Your old lips are sealed
but thoughts are revealed.

I guess that if we cannot totally scrap off reservation, but the grounds for being in the so called reserved should not be birth, but other criteria like Economic background, availability of facilites, having studied in a rural setup... etc... and there should be limitation to the number of times one can use the 'reservation' in his lifetime. What generally happens is... one uses the 'Reservation' for getting an MBBS seat.. then an MD seat followed by a reservation for Senior Residency... (Thankfully there is not reservation in DM/MCh Programs) and then he gets a Reservation for a faculty position and also is preferred over his so called "previliged' general category friend... for every promotion... What kind of a justice is this?

Will Sharad Pawar introduce quotas for the Indian cricket team?

I have recommendations for Mr. Sharad Pawar, as he is the head of the reservation committee set up by the centre as well as the chief of BCCI.

I urge him to introduce quotas first at BCCI. There should be 50 percent reservation for OBSs/STs in the Indian Team selected and also a 50% reservation in the playing 11 as well.

One can just imagine what this will lead the Indian team to, where the Chappell’s mantra is "Merit comes first".

The team which has been winning consistently under this mantra will never be able to compete at the international level.

And probably the talented Indian players will migrate & become citizens of foreign countries and represent these countries because they were not given the justified opportunities in their own country.

Mr. Sharad Pawar is intelligent enough not to introduce reservation at BCCI because it will lead only to disaster. The same is applicable to India & Indian Inc. By introducing reservations we have already made a huge mistake and now by increasing its scale & scope it will only lead us to unmitigable disaster.

Hope we can all speak up for this issue. Let’s try to save ourselves and our future generation from a move which is nothing but vote bank politics.

Aggrieved by what all is happening around u,s I would say that a bitter truth is that a 'UTOPIA' would never exist. But that does not mean we would allow mean policies like "Reservation" to flourish and spell doom to our country. These mindless politicians can do anything to increase their vote bank but this legislation will leave us nowhere. The picture of our nation will stand drooped with shame because of these egotistical lots. And the question stands glaring at all of us. And that is, would we allow this to happen? A nation can only flourish if it can treat each of its children with the same yardstick, providing support to strenthen them and then opportunities to let them contribute to nation building. The repercussions of this legislation would be:
i) Loss of FDI by many counts and nobody would want to get their job done in a country where people have jobs because of their descent.
ii) Loss of jobs , degradation in country's profile.
iii) The brand India institutions will be doomed when they will be seen discrediting merit.
iv) We will never be able to compete with other nations and would lose out in the world market. Lose out heavily on income from exports.
v) Brand India will be doomed.

What else could these politicians do to our nation's and our future, leaving us with scarce of everything, even pride. Who gave them the right to do this. I exhort all of my countrymen to rise against this. We all will have to unite and stand to decry any such irrational policies and never allow them to be implemented. I urge my peers in software industry to join in and pour in their ideas about what we in industry can do to agitate against this.

These reservations are actually demeaning to the backward classes.Does that actually imply that the backward classes are less talented and they need crutches to compete in entrance examinations? A few years ago I read an article about the notion that India has had enough of its reservation policies and it should now be done away with now that we are entering the 21st century as a progressive and powerful nation. On the contrary the politicians are hell bent to go into regressive mode.I am baffled by their cheekiness and shamelessness.

We all have to show the power of Youth of our country. We need to show that such dirty political gimmicks cannot destroy our unity and we need to make the government realise the true meaning of a Democracy. Just providing reservations at all higher levels of education withouth paying attention at providing the basic educational facilities cannot make these politicians think that they have won the battle of Votes. A nationwide protest in which all the youths stand united can definitely make the government realise its real duties.

Reserving discrimination..
Thats what the govt is doing by increasing reservations and that too to 50%. Why doesnt the govt do something substantial like improve primary education..this vote bank politics cant lead the country anywhere...and then it is the politicians who blame the youth for brain drain....

we request all those who wish to have such reservations, get their treatment from the people, who are admitted only on the basis of reservations and not on merit.
we do not discourage who are admitted based on reservations, but yes we would need doctors who qualify basis their ability and not just selected with some reservations.

I believe that the initiative undertaken by you people is absolutely commendable. The protests do make a stronger statement considering that all previous requests have fallen on deaf ears.
Something definitely should make these politicians realize that reserving seats in the country's premier institutes will do no good to the backward classes, unless the primary infrastructure is in place.
How does one expect them to perform, once admitted, when everyone knows that majority of these students are not competent enough to tackle the pressures involved to be in these institutes. No amount of crash course training can change that.
So, I guess that we are fighting for their cause as well.

.....The march from MAMC to PARLIAMENT STREET. It was meant to show people that we will not back out of this cause....no matter what comes our way...and i believe we did just that!!!!

.....i have to say that students from other colleges were not there in the large numbers that we had expected...but hey, we made a start...and as exams in other DU colleges get over, they will join us. We don't need to loose heart. SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE!!!!

2nd may 2006,

another day, another protest....many people who saw us marching were probably thinking just that.

But if not today, they will relate to us tomorrow....we just need to keep going!!! People stare at you the 1st time, laugh at u the 2nd time, ask you to give up at the 3rd time, listen to you the 4th time and understand you the 5th time.

we are not giving up....not today, not tomorrow...never...and people will eventually see our conviction for this cause. AND THEY WILL COME UP AND SUPPORT US.

Our DETERMINATION AND UNITY, above all our DIVERSITIES, is our greatest STRENGTH!!! And with this, we are going to make history!!

keep going!

There r no shortcuts to success and reservations should not be one such way.Injustice can't be done to anyone and if done will not be tolerated. The govt. will have to change their decision.
The govt. cannot put the career of lakhs of students at stake.I came to know about the situation by a friend of mine studying in LHMC. This is a critical phase and we all shold join hands to fight against it.

49.5% quota doesn't makes any sense
The total seats uder the quota system are never filled by such category candidates. They r all filled as paid seats or by other illegal means. This rise in quota will only increase corruption in the system and "will lead no one nowhere" except the politicians who have done this just for the sake of their beloved "kursi". I really appreciate the efforts the medical students of delhi who r putting in their efforts in organising the strikes and r fighting for the cause.
