MUMBAI 13th May: Peacefully protesting Students beaten up by police....SHAME! SHAME!
Dear friends and fellow members of Youth for Equality,
We all know what happened at Mumbai on 13th May. We saw it on our TV sets, read it in the papers, heard it on radio. We are all deeply anguished and our blood boiled when we saw scenes of how the Mumbai students were being beaten up.

The government has yet again displayed its total apathy on the issue. Its been over 2 days after the election commission's restrictions are over and we are yet to hear an answer. Mr. Prime Minister are you listening to us????
Kudos to the Mumbaikers for their unwavering determination and strength. They remained non-violent till the end, even when such brutality was being lashed upon them.
Several of them suffered injury, about 40 are grievously injured, while there are some who have suffered fractures of bones of arm, leg and jaw ; in addition to bleeding into joint cavities for some. Many others were treated for minor injuries.
Kudos also to our friends from all other cities who not only condemned the incident but came out on the streets in protest. Friends, you may feel the media attention is only on Delhi and Mumbai, but its you guys who form the bulk of the movement and inspire us to move forward.
Friends the struggle is far from over....... we have to consolidate our resources, to be organised and united till the very end..........
Friends, some of us may start feeling depressed and feel the situation is hopeless.......
BUT NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT.........WE HAVE TO STRIKE WHEN THE IRON IS HOT....... WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE..........WE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.........and if our voice is not reaching to our 'LEADERS' WE WILL MAKE IT REACH THEM.

I was watching 'Hum Log' on NDTV right now...there was a representative frm YOUTH FOR EQUALITY (so-called)...and he was literally stammering...he had no points...in the end the host said..."u should speak logically as u r educated"
It was real fun watching it...and it ia a clear indication that all this protest is baseless...the docs have no points...and they are merely playing with the life of the patients...
Hats off to NDTV...the only channel looking on both sides of the problem...

Police in Mumbai on Saturday brutally beat up medicos and other students protesting against reservation. Close to 20 students sustained injuries, with two of them admitted to hospitals with suspected fractures. Many others were treated for minor injuries.
This is really shocking.Not only Medicos but every Indian should condemn manhandling of peaceful
Medicos.
Yesterday Pune witnessed a huge rally by around 600 medicos who protested against attacks on medicos by police.Now the battle is gaining the momentum.

hi, i'm neither a medical nor an engineering student. I am an ordinary working professional. However, I feel strongly about the reservation issue and the govt's response to the protests so far.
The lathicharge at a peaceful protest...wat does it remind you of? Remember Jalliawala Bagh? How peaceful protestors were beaten and killed eventually? And that was under the British rule...now we are supposedly free. Or are we? Even the Britishers condemned Gen. Dyer's act but our own PM is blind and doesn't do anything about the assaults on students. Do we want such a democracy? Do we NEED such a government? The issue here is not just reservation but the state of our country.
And no, IT IS NOT GOING TO AFFECT DOCTORS AND ENGINEERS only.. it will affect the common man more than anyone. I don't think many people realise it yet, thts why they arent coming fwd. I think that's the first step we must take. To make the NON Medical and Non engineering students realise how their life will be transformed if this reservation isn't scrapped. How many of us want to pay thousands of rupees to doctors only to be prescribed wrong medicines? How many of us would want to drive on flyovers that could crash anytime? Let's try and make our friends and families realise how this is going to have a DIRECT EFFECT on us.
Everyoen is sad about the Lathicharge...what about the those patients who died in Delhi today...because all docs were on strike...

right now only 3 patients have died due to protests...if there are 50% docs from reserved category without considering merit 3000 will die at the hands of these doctors.

by lookin at this nation wide movement by doctors i guess people from so called high class society come in to some action by next election , firstly to vote as a responsiblity and secondly to elect the candidate with sound thoughts and not like the present one... undergraduates , interns and resident docotors involved have done a great job but sad that this govenrment is as deaf , blind and mute as ever on any issues related to general category population,as they are never the vote bank as reservation class is.. no strike would have gain such support as we medicos did all over nation.. government should take notice of this and indeed urgently as doctors are already on hunger strike.. government by reacting late is just a lazy attitute, y descision cannot be taken in one night stand when its health service which is getting affected. are they not responsible in delaying the issues.. its open fact that this government is just playing a political gimic as usual .. long back it was in 1990 and now after 15 yrs again history repeats itself...i request via this channel to all students of india to remain united....i pray to god to give enough strength to youths to fight for equality

As much the "open" caste people would like to do away with quota
altogether, It cannot be done in just one step.The current quota system is very badly flawed, yet,The government cannot possibly rethink on decreasing the quota immediatly...it will lose a major vote bank.
So there has to be some negotiation so that the open category AND the
castes will both eventually get justice. The HRD minister has said that the gov is looking for a all-inclusive solution to the reservation debate.
Should you get achance to interact with the HRD minister,Here are some suggestions that I propose you should include:
(1) The quotas cannot go on forever.Seek to end the quota system or atleast limit to least amount in a stipulated time frame...say 25-50 years.This should be done not in one step but decrease 1-2% of quota per year and finally abolish it altogether.Thus the changes will be gradual.
Thus the caste people will be pressurised to perform but in a gradual manner.
(2) Do away with separate quotas for BC, OBC, SC/ST, NT and the likes. One caste cannot be more repressed than other. A person can only be entitled for caste benefits or not. There should be no subdivisions so that only the most meritorius candidates even amongst the caste people should get admitted.
(3)Finally encourage GOs and NGOs to elevate the status of caste people to enable them to compete on equal grounds.

Way to go guys, I have really liked the way you guys have gone about your protest. Its very inspiring. Although I might disagree with some of your views on the need for reservations, but I believe this is the right way to go about demanding for a national debate. I know why the government is doing it, please note that in todays circumstances if they don't do populist things, they will be thrown out of power! So keep the good work going... and hope we are able to have a middle path which will be good for the country...
you know why Rang de Basanti was as big a phenomenon as it turned out to be. You don’t play with our self respect Mr.Singh. I understand you successfully implemented a 49.5% reservation in Madhya Pradesh a couple of decades back. Lightning strikes just once. And yeah, what goes around comes around. Except that, its your turn to be hit by the collective thunder.
In conclusion, all I would state is, even after having said what I have, I would still want you to have a peaceful twilight of your life. So heed the call of a generation.A generation which will not let merit become a victim of whimsical eccentricity.A generation which will be celebrated for its resurgence and tenacity. All the protest is definitely making the people aware but as far as the politicians go they only understand the language of votes. To make them here here are two suggestions.
1) Next protests should have placards that read "My vote counts and I will cast it" or some variation of that.
2) Lets start a email campaign that signs up people who will not vote for a party that subscribes to the policy of reservation.
few lakh names from each city will be sufficient to make some politicians listen to us.

i feel exhilarated with the spirit of youth fighting against all odds to bring in equality..
i completely agree tht there should not be reservations on caste basis coz this is breeding nothin but the same british poliy of divide and rule.today as conscious people of india we need to oppose this same policy of the indian govt.instead of reminding people of the caste they come from,its important to subsidise the education of those who are deserving and who cannot afford higher education..this protest against the reservation is not a fight against our own brothers and sisters of the nation but a fight against this policy of our govt who persistently create inequality amongst the masses.
in a field like medicine as many people say is a noble profession and only those who are really the cream of the lot enter the field(which is independent of so called caste and creed),in such situations dont u think that merit should be the foremost factor on the basis of which our PG admissions should take place followed by aid to those meritorious students who cannot afford the education.after all its a matter of life and death we r dealing with!
so friends we must continue the agitaion and bring abt awareness amongst our friends that this

I am very happy with the revolution going on in the country.These petty politicians are doing anything and everything so that they can get votes.They are playing with students lives just for their greed and why is The PM silent?? He has to say anything for everything and in these days not a single comment or his face is not also seen in newspapers either. What is going on?? All this seems to be just like Rang De Basanti style and very soon if Arjun Singh is killed it would be the best.And to people who support the reservation system let them introduce scholarships for you all so that atleast others are not affected.What a shame it is to beat up students??And then they expect people to study in their own country?? How could they if we students are DISOWNED BY OUR OWN COUNTRY!!! Mr. Prime Minister we will fight for our rights as our pledge only states in the first line only that All Indians are equal dont you understand the meaning of it?? I think we should have job reservations in all the fields. I completely support the PM and all the politicians for promoting this. Let's start the reservation with our cricket team. We should have 10 percent reservation for muslims. 30 percent for OBC, SC/ST like that. Cricket rules should be modified accordingly. The boundary circle should be reduced for an SC/ST player. The four hit by an OBC player should be considered as a six and a six hit by a OBC player should be counted as 8 runs. An OBC player scoring 60 runs should be declared as a century.
We should influence ICC and make rules so that the pace bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar should not bowl fast balls to our OBC player. Bowlers should bowl maximum speed of 80 kilometer per hour to an OBC player. Any delivery above this speed should be made illegal.
Also we should have reservation in Olympics. In the 100 meters race, an OBC player should be given a gold medal if he runs 80 meters.
There can be reservation in Government jobs also. Let's recruit SC/ST and OBC pilots for aircrafts which are carrying the ministers and
politicians (that can really help the country.. )
Ensure that only SC/ST and OBC doctors do the operations for the ministers and other politicians. (Another way of saving the country..)

All sections of society wants the poor (irrespective of cast and creed) to be uplifted and do our bit in one way or other but those who have power and means to do stoop to shameless tactics of division of country.I hail from a small village and i feel sorry that my village has not got means of learning and education and not mine but every village has the same story to tell.If we can just view things from not from perspective of mera tera but as humara then we will realize that this is a common loss to everybody and to our country for which lot of blood was shed to gain independece after 200 yrs of slavery and now we are back to a sqaure and this time NETA's from our own country are playing with a whole nation to divide and gain power.Please make sure that they donot succeed in their attempt and we stood stronger than before more united and stand as one irrespective of the fact to which cast we belong to.
It would have been great if we could have used our mother language here in expressing ourselves so that our voice can be heard across the nation.

This OBC Reservations is just a ploy by the Govt to sneek in the MUSLIM and CHRISTIAN reservations it wanted to get.

Remember this is not Other Backward Categories but Classes, so bingo - The Vatican has succedeed. This is a sinister ploy of churches and missionaries in India convert Hindu's tribal/rural and no other than Sonia Mano is helping these designs.

The UPA Govt is proposing to accord minority status to Jains (which are as of now clubbed up with Hindu's) - This is another nail in the coffin of our society.

We are on the right move. But we should not accept the govt. policy to increase the no. of seats to increase the reservation % in that institute. This never can be the solution to this problem. If the students of reserve catagory are provided with the same hostel, same water, same food, same staff members, same library, same lending unit i.e.same facilities Still they don't have to fees, they have extra scholarships then why there is need for the reservation in the post gradution??? By increasing no. of seats govt. is not able to maintain the same quality education. The only solution is to remove the reservation in post gradution. It is my (our) kind request to our leaders not to accept this policy to increase the no. of seats. By accepting this those students are able to get 27% of proposed resevation. So be alert.
Those students get reservation at 5 levels(ie.primary, secondary, higher secondary..)Why they need for 6th one??? At least they show their merit at 6th stage

I am ashamed to say that I voted for this Government. Why do we need a govt.whose only objective is to get more votes? I strongly urge the nation to bring down these vote-hungry, nation-wrecking politicians.
There was a comment posted saying that there are reservations for blacks in the USA. That is very untrue. Some government jobs are required to take in visible minorities but if and only if their qualifications and academics are on par with the whites.

I think when our govt. wants to uplift rural sections of society and provide them with essential health care,those people who get a M.B.B.S seat thru reservation shud be made to sign a bond that they will serve in rural areas (or their native places)for atleast 5 years.On the contrary,they are gifted with a P.G. seat immediately after passing M.B.B.S without any efforts while depriving the deserving ,meritorious,hard working candidates in making a contribution to progress in the medicine at national and international level.This is creating a total imbalance . Only a fool can let this go on.

ABOLISH ALL FEES FOR EDUCATION AND ABOLISH CAPITATION FEE/PRIVATE EDUCATION: (Germany has free education for all)
Good Quality Education must be a social need and FREE which has to be fulfilled by the state. After all we do pay taxes to the government to provide us quality services. It is when, we the middle class chose to opt out of government schools that education suffered. If there were ONLY government schools we ALL (irrespective of castes) would have united much earlier and could have really kicked ass and ensured good education for all. The same happened with water, electricity, transport, health services etc. We let the government take us for a long long ride - we did not fight... instead we chose an easy way out...today we all have aquaguards, generators, invertors, personal cars etc. and the government is sitting on its fat arse doing nothing.NOTHING. Forget higher education...Why cant the government supply clean drinking water even after 55 years of independence???Why must we buy aquaguards while the poor ( irrespective of their caste) continue to suffer???
Why should we pay taxes and then have to pay again and again for services which are useless, while an idiot with cash becomes a doctor simply by buying his way through into private medical colleges??? WHY??

We need to work in planned way, as reservation will never be abolished by the will of the ruling party only. As it is their bread and butter and every party supports it in their agenda for the game of votes and politics.
We need to target that issue which will disintegrate the ruling party Congress from its other allies and other parties. Only then other politicians from different parties will come forward to support our cause. It can be said that Congress has failed in implementing the reservation, when after so many years of providing reservation, still poor people are in need of reservation. Reservation is just the eyewash, and actually Congress wants to attract votes from backward classes and playing dirty politics. We need to attach many more supporting issues to this reservation issue that would show the failure of congress, so Congress party is BAD. If this will be motto, then focus will come on the credibility of the party, and eventually the party will try to makeover its stand on Reservation.
